How is it different?

Most fertility supplement companies ignore the male contribution to conception and pregnancy completely. We are different because we place equal importance on sperm and egg health.

Fundamental Man is different from your average mutlivitamin:

  • Every ingredient chosen for its specific role in sperm production, DNA integrity, motility or antioxidant protection
  • Methylated B vitamins: forms your body can use immediately, regardless of your genetics
  • No magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide or industrial oils - these are commonly used fillers and flow agents that do nothing for you, they just keep manufacturing costs down
  • Amber glass bottles: protect ingredients from light degradation and reduce your exposure to plastic
  • Made in the UK to GMP standards

Who is it for?

  • Just starting to try

The 3 months before you conceive matter more than most people realise. Sperm take around 90 days to develop, so what you're doing today determines the quality of what's produced next quarter. Fundamental Man gives your body the nutritional foundation it needs, so when it's time to conceive, you are ready.

  • Preparing for IVF or other fertility treatment

When you're going through fertility treatment, sperm quality matters at every stage: from fertilisation through to embryo development. DNA fragmentation, motility, and morphology can all influence outcomes, even when a standard semen analysis looks normal. Fundamental Man is formulated with these in mind.

  • Unexplained infertility

If you've been told everything looks fine but conception isn't happening, oxidative damage to sperm DNA is one of the most common factors that standard testing doesn't pick up. Fundamental Man's antioxidant nutrients directly address this, supporting sperm integrity at a level that goes beyond what a basic count and motility test can measure.

  • Known sperm challenges

Whether it's low count, poor motility, or morphology concerns, the nutrients in Fundamental Man are chosen specifically for their roles in each aspect of sperm health. Start at least three months before you need results: that's one full sperm production cycle.

"One of the saddest things I hear is when a couple has been trying for months, assuming the issue lies with egg quality, when sperm is a contributing factor in around half of all fertility cases.

Sperm are produced continuously and are remarkably sensitive to nutritional deficiencies, lifestyle, and environment, which means there is a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference in just three months."
  • Folate your body can use from day one Not the synthetic form it has to convert first, and some people struggle to convert efficiently.
  • Clean, premium formulations No nasties like magnesium stearate or silicon dioxide. There are fillers and flow agents that do nothing for your health, they just keep manufacturing costs down.
  • Targets every aspect of sperm health From production and motility to DNA integrity and oxidative protection — not a generic multivitamin with sperm health on the label.
  • Designed to work alongside our other products Fundamental Man is the foundation. Add CoQ10 for mitochondrial energy in the sperm midpiece, or omega-3 for membrane fluidity. No gaps, no doubling up.

Every ingredient, and why we include it

Fundamental Man has 19 nutrients, each chosen for a specific reason. Explore the benefits for all aspects of your reproductive health.

Benefits for sperm production Adequate sperm count and normal sperm shape are both essential for conception
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Zinc (Zinc Bisglycinate) Chelated form
6mg
60% NRV
Normal sperm production

Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction, and is directly involved in the process of sperm production. We use the bisglycinate form, which absorbs significantly better than the cheaper zinc oxide found in most supplements.

Selenium Sodium Selenate
100µg
182% NRV
Normal sperm formation

Selenium contributes to normal spermatogenesis, the process by which sperm are formed in the testes. It is also one of the key antioxidant minerals, protecting sperm from the oxidative damage that can affect both count and quality.

Folate (5-MTHF) Active form
100µg
50% NRV
DNA support that works for everyone

Folate is essential for DNA synthesis and cell division, both of which are central to the continuous production of new sperm. We use the active form, 5-MTHF, which works even if your body struggles to convert standard folic acid, a limitation that affects up to 40% of people.

Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol
10µg
200% NRV
Supports reproductive health

Vitamin D receptors are found in testicular cells, and adequate vitamin D is associated with normal reproductive function. Most men in the UK have insufficient levels, particularly in winter months, and it is one of the few nutrients where supplementation is recommended for the general population.

Iodine (Knotted Kelp) Food-form source
150µg
100% NRV
Healthy thyroid for hormone balance

Iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production. Thyroid hormones regulate testosterone production and overall hormonal balance, both of which affect sperm production and quality.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Active methylated form
250µg
10000% NRV
Cell division for new sperm

B12 is required for DNA synthesis and the rapid cell division that generates new sperm. We use methylcobalamin, the active form your body uses directly, rather than cyanocobalamin which requires conversion first.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Benefits for sperm DNA integrity Healthy sperm DNA is essential for fertilisation and normal embryo development
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Folate (5-MTHF) Active form
100µg
50% NRV
Reduced DNA fragmentation

Folate is central to DNA repair and methylation. Low folate is associated with higher levels of DNA fragmentation in sperm, which can affect fertilisation and embryo development even when sperm count looks normal on a standard semen analysis.

Zinc (Zinc Bisglycinate) Chelated form
6mg
60% NRV
Protects sperm DNA

Zinc plays a direct structural role in protecting the DNA inside sperm. It forms complexes with the proteins that package sperm DNA tightly, helping to shield it from damage during the journey to the egg.

Selenium Sodium Selenate
100µg
182% NRV
Shields sperm genetic material

Selenium is incorporated into antioxidant enzymes specifically expressed in the testes. These enzymes neutralise the reactive molecules that would otherwise cause breaks in sperm DNA, which matter for what the embryo inherits.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Active methylated form
250µg
10000% NRV
Passing on healthy genetic instructions

B12 is a key methyl donor, involved in regulating how sperm DNA is read and expressed. This epigenetic information is passed on at fertilisation and can influence embryo development and long-term child health.

Choline Choline Bitartrate
150mg
Supports healthy sperm DNA packaging

Choline is a methyl donor that works alongside folate and B12. Together they control how sperm DNA is packaged and expressed, which matters not just for fertilisation but for what the embryo inherits from the father.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Benefits for sperm movement Sperm need to swim strongly and in the right direction to reach and fertilise the egg
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Selenium Sodium Selenate
100µg
182% NRV
Healthy tail structure

Selenium is structurally incorporated into the midpiece of the sperm tail, where it supports the mechanical function that drives forward movement. Low selenium is one of the more consistent findings in men with poor sperm motility.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Active methylated form
250µg
10000% NRV
Supports sperm motility

B12 supplementation has been shown in clinical studies to improve sperm motility, including forward progression speed. The effect is thought to relate to its role in energy metabolism and cell membrane function.

Zinc (Zinc Bisglycinate) Chelated form
6mg
60% NRV
Supports forward swimming

Zinc is required for normal sperm motility. It helps regulate the biochemical processes that drive the tail movement needed for sperm to swim actively towards the egg.

Vitamin E D-alpha tocopherol
5mg
42% NRV
Keeps sperm membranes flexible

Sperm membranes are unusually rich in polyunsaturated fats, making them vulnerable to oxidative damage. Vitamin E protects these membranes from the damage that stiffens them and reduces the sperm's ability to swim and penetrate the egg.

Niacin (Vitamin B3) NAD+ precursor
30mg NE
188% NRV
Energy to power sperm movement

Sperm are among the most metabolically active cells in the body. Niacin is a precursor to NAD+, the coenzyme at the centre of energy production in the sperm midpiece where the fuel for swimming is generated.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate) Active form
10mg
714% NRV
Supports normal metabolism

B6 plays a role in testosterone metabolism and helps regulate the hormonal environment that determines sperm production and function. We use pyridoxal-5-phosphate, the active coenzyme form that requires no conversion.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Benefits for protecting sperm from damage Oxidative damage is one of the most common causes of poor sperm quality and is associated with DNA fragmentation
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Vitamin C Ascorbic acid
50mg
63% NRV
Antioxidant shield for sperm

Vitamin C is the most abundant antioxidant in seminal fluid, present at concentrations far higher than in blood. It protects sperm from the oxidative damage that reduces count, quality, and DNA integrity.

Vitamin E D-alpha tocopherol
5mg
42% NRV
Protects sperm cell membranes

Vitamin E sits inside sperm cell membranes where it intercepts free radicals before they can damage the fatty acids that keep membranes healthy. It works in partnership with vitamin C, which recharges it once it has done its job.

Selenium Sodium Selenate
100µg
182% NRV
Antioxidant enzyme support

Selenium is a core component of the glutathione peroxidase enzymes that neutralise the reactive molecules most harmful to sperm. Without adequate selenium, these protective enzymes cannot function properly.

Beta Carotene Provitamin A
0.8mg
Safe antioxidant vitamin A

Beta carotene is a carotenoid antioxidant that also provides vitamin A activity, contributing to the defences that protect developing sperm. Vitamin A is essential for spermatogenesis, and beta carotene provides it without the toxicity risk of high-dose preformed retinol.

Zinc (Zinc Bisglycinate) Chelated form
6mg
60% NRV
Reduces oxidative stress

Zinc contributes to the antioxidant enzyme system and helps prevent the kinds of oxidative reactions that cause DNA damage within sperm. Adequate zinc throughout sperm development helps keep fragmentation low.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Supporting your wider reproductive health The nutrients that keep the hormonal, metabolic, and structural systems that sperm depend on working properly
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) Activates other B vitamins
10mg
714% NRV
Helps other B vitamins do their work

Riboflavin is required to convert B6 and folate into their active forms. Without adequate B2, the other B vitamins in this formula cannot do their jobs properly.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Energy cofactor
10mg
909% NRV
Cellular energy production

Thiamin is a cofactor in carbohydrate metabolism and energy production, supporting the high metabolic demands of rapidly dividing cells during sperm production.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) CoA precursor
30mg
500% NRV
Hormone and energy metabolism

Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A, which is central to energy metabolism and required for the synthesis of steroid hormones including testosterone.

Vitamin K2 (MK-7) Most bioavailable form
100µg
133% NRV
Makes D3 work properly

K2 works alongside vitamin D3, directing calcium to bones and away from soft tissue. Supplementing D3 without K2 may limit how effectively vitamin D3 works.

Manganese (Bisglycinate) Chelated form
1mg
50% NRV
Mitochondrial antioxidant defence

Manganese is a cofactor for the primary antioxidant enzyme inside mitochondria. The sperm midpiece is incredibly mitochondria-rich because sperm rely on the energy generated there to power movement.

Copper Copper Sulphate
1mg
100% NRV
Balances zinc absorption

Zinc and copper compete for absorption, so supplementing zinc without copper can deplete copper over time. This small inclusion keeps the balance right and prevents an unintended deficiency.

Chromium (Picolinate) Best-evidenced form
50µg
125% NRV
Steady blood sugar

Chromium supports healthy insulin sensitivity and blood glucose regulation.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

FAQ

When should I start taking Fundamental Man?

Ideally at least 3 months before you want to conceive. This is the approximate time it takes for sperm to develop and mature.

But it's never too late to start. Start now even if you're already trying.

Can I take it alongside CoQ10, Omega-3 and magnesium?

Yes! All our products are designed to fit together. You can take Fundamental Man alongside CoQ10, Omega-3, and magnesium bisglycinate.

How is this different from a men's multivitamin?

Fundamental Man has been carefully crafted to include the nutrients that support all aspects of sperm health including sperm production, sperm DNA integrity, sperm movement, hormonal balance as well as providing antioxidants that protect sperm from damage.

Why doesn't it contain magnesium?

The recommended daily intake of magnesium is ~300mg. Most multivitamins don't contain anything like that amount because it would make the capsules either very large or increase the capsule count considerably.

And the form of magnesium that's included is often hard to absorb, causes side effects or is not the optimum form for supporting fertility.

For that reason, we provide magnesium bisglycinate as a standalone product, enabling you to get a meaningful dose in an appropriate form and to have the freedom to take this at night where it can support relaxation and sleep.

When should I start if I'm preparing for IVF?

Lifestyle changes that you make in the run up to IVF, including taking supplements, are best started at least 3 months before you give your sperm sample. This is the window that matters for sperm development.

Why do you use methylfolate (5-MTHF) rather than folic acid?

Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate that your body has to convert into its active, usable form before it can do anything. That conversion happens through a series of enzymatic steps, and a significant proportion of people carry a variant of the MTHFR gene that impairs this process, meaning folic acid may not be efficiently absorbed at all. Methylfolate (5-MTHF) is the active, ready-to-use form that your cells can absorb directly, with no conversion required. It works for everyone, regardless of genetics.

You might wonder whether including both forms covers all bases. But there's a specific reason we've chosen not to. Research suggests that unmetabolised folic acid may compete with active folate at the same receptors, potentially reducing the benefit of the methylfolate you've taken. So adding folic acid alongside 5-MTHF isn't a belt-and-braces approach; it may actively work against it. One carefully chosen form, at the right dose, is better formulation than two forms that can interfere with each other.

Why does the form of each nutrient matter?

Because your body can't always use what it's given. Synthetic folic acid has to be converted before it does anything - some women do this poorly due to genetic variations. Cheap synthetic B12 (cyanocobalamin) has to be converted too. We use the active, methylated forms that your body can use immediately, regardless of your genetics.
