Every ingredient, and why it's included

Fundamental Woman contains 21 nutrients, each chosen for a specific role in fertility, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Explore each section to see the benefits for each stage of your journey.

Benefits for egg health and conception
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Folate (5-MTHF) Active form
400µg
200% NRV
DNA support that works for everyone

Folate is essential for DNA synthesis and cell division, both of which are central to producing a healthy egg. Every egg that matures goes through rapid cell division, and folate is required at every stage of that process. We use the active form, 5-MTHF, which works even if your body struggles to convert standard folic acid, a limitation that affects up to 40% of women.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Active methylated form
200µg
8000% NRV
Supports normal egg development

The form your body uses directly. Works alongside folate to support a healthy environment for implantation.

Zinc (Zinc Bisglycinate) Chelated form
15mg
150% NRV
Normal egg development

Supports normal follicular development and ovulation. The bisglycinate form absorbs significantly better than cheaper alternatives.

Selenium Antioxidant mineral
100µg
182% NRV
Thyroid and egg quality

Supports healthy thyroid function and antioxidant defence, both relevant to egg quality and regular cycles.

Vitamin E D-alpha tocopherol
12mg
100% NRV
Protects egg cells

A fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes, particularly relevant to the mitochondria inside maturing eggs.

Vitamin C Ascorbic acid
200mg
250% NRV
Cell protection + iron boost

Antioxidant protection for your cells, plus a significant boost to iron absorption from this formula.

Chromium (Picolinate) Best-evidenced form
40µg
100% NRV
Steady blood sugar

Supports insulin sensitivity and blood sugar balance, relevant for the hormonal environment needed for regular ovulation and egg development.

Choline
250mg
Egg maturation

Plays a key role in egg maturation and is required for the cell membrane changes that allow a mature egg to be fertilised.

Vitamin B6 Pyridoxine
8mg
571% NRV
Hormone balance

Involved in oestrogen metabolism and works alongside folate and B12 to support a healthy hormonal environment for conception.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Benefits for pregnancy
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Folate (5-MTHF) Active form
400µg
200% NRV
Baby’s neural development

One of the most important nutrients in early pregnancy, and one where the form matters. We use 5-MTHF, the active form that works even if your body struggles to convert standard folic acid, a limitation that affects up to 40% of women. Starting before conception means it’s already at the right level when it counts most.

Choline
250mg
Baby’s brain formation

Critical for fetal brain and spinal cord development, and almost always missing from standard prenatals.

Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol
50µg
1000% NRV
Healthy pregnancy outcomes

Most people in the UK are deficient. Vitamin D receptors are present in the uterus and placenta, and adequate levels are associated with better outcomes throughout pregnancy.

Iron (Ferrous Bisglycinate) Gentle, chelated form
15mg
108% NRV
Fuel for baby without upsetting your stomach

Essential for carrying oxygen to your growing baby. The bisglycinate form absorbs well without the constipation or nausea of standard iron supplements.

Iodine (Knotted Kelp) Food-form source
150µg
100% NRV
Baby’s brain and thyroid

Essential for your baby’s cognitive development, especially in the first trimester before their own thyroid is working. Often low in UK diets.

Vitamin K2 (MK-7) Most bioavailable form
90µg
120% NRV
Makes D3 work properly

Directs calcium to bones and teeth where it belongs, and makes sure the vitamin D3 in this formula does its job properly.

Vitamin B6 Pyridoxine
8mg
571% NRV
Eases morning sickness

Widely used for nausea relief in early pregnancy, and recommended as a first-line approach in several clinical guidelines.

Niacin (Vitamin B3) NAD+ precursor
16mg
100% NRV
Fuels rapid cell growth

Supports the cellular energy your body needs during rapid fetal development, and plays a role in DNA repair.

Beta Carotene Provitamin A
3mg
Safe vitamin A

Provides vitamin A without the toxicity risk of preformed retinol, which is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) CoA precursor
5mg
83% NRV
Supports hormone production

A component of coenzyme A, which is central to energy metabolism and involved in steroid hormone production.

Manganese (Bisglycinate) Chelated form
1mg
50% NRV
Baby’s bones and joints

Required for forming the structural components of bone and cartilage, important as your baby’s skeleton develops.

Biotin (D-Biotin) Natural form
50µg
100% NRV
Embryonic and fetal growth

Plays a role in how genes switch on and off during fetal development, increasingly recognised as important in early embryo growth.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Benefits for breastfeeding
Ingredient Dose Key benefit
Iodine (Knotted Kelp) Food-form source
150µg
100% NRV
Baby’s cognitive development and thyroid function

Iodine in breast milk depends directly on what you eat. Your baby’s thyroid relies on your supply until they start on solids.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Active methylated form
200µg
8000% NRV
Baby’s neurological development

B12 in breast milk reflects your own levels. Deficiency in breastfed babies, particularly from plant-based diets, can affect neurological development.

Choline
250mg
Baby’s brain development and memory

Choline passes into breast milk and continues to support your baby’s brain development after birth. Higher maternal intake during lactation is associated with better infant cognitive outcomes.

Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol
50µg
1000% NRV
Replenish your stores

Pregnancy and lactation both deplete vitamin D. Continuing to supplement postpartum protects your bone health and supports your baby’s development.

Iron (Ferrous Bisglycinate) Gentle, chelated form
15mg
108% NRV
Recover after birth

Iron levels often take months to recover after delivery. The bisglycinate form supports repletion without the side effects that make standard iron supplements hard to stick with.

Folate (5-MTHF) Active form
400µg
200% NRV
Supports baby’s rapid growth

Folate is secreted into breast milk to support your baby’s rapid cell growth. We use the active form, 5-MTHF, which works even if your body struggles to convert standard folic acid, a limitation that affects up to 40% of women. Requirements remain elevated throughout lactation.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Energy cofactor
10mg
909% NRV
Baby’s nervous system

Thiamin passes into breast milk and is essential for infant neurological development. Maternal depletion during lactation is a documented risk.

† No Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) has been established.

Belinda and Chris
"I wish I had known what to take earlier in our journey. It might have saved us years, money, and a lot of heartbreak."

My husband and I did 6 rounds of IVF. After three failed cycles, we switched to a US clinic that actively encouraged us to take a specific list of supplements, including high-dose CoQ10, for three months before starting. That round, our embryo attrition rate dropped dramatically. We made five good-quality blastocysts. It was the turning point.

I'm a doctor. I'd read the research. But I still hadn't prioritised supplements the way I should have. After seeing the difference firsthand, I couldn't understand why no one had made this simpler. The evidence was there. It just wasn't being applied.

Finding everything in the right dose, the right form, without fillers and industrial oils, was a full-time job on top of everything else we were already going through. I used to spend Sunday evenings making up pill organisers for us both. That's where Fertility Hero and Fundamental Woman came from. I made the products I spent years looking for.

FAQ

When should I start taking Fundamental Woman?

Ideally at least 3 months before you want to conceive. This is the approximate time it takes for eggs to mature and this time will also allow you to address any nutritional gaps you may have before pregnancy.

But it's never too late to start. If you've just found out you're pregnant, start now.

Can I take it alongside CoQ10, Omega-3 and myo-inositol?

Yes! All our products are designed to fit together for different stages. If you are focused on egg quality, you can take Fundamental Woman alongside CoQ10, Omega-3, myo-inositol and magnesium bisglycinate. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding then you can continue Fundamental Woman with your Omega-3.

No gaps, no doubling up. Everything fits together clearly.

How is this different from a standard prenatal?

Most prenatals use synthetic forms of key nutrients, cut corners on doses and include fillers that shouldn't be in your supplements. Fundamental Woman uses methylated, bioavailable forms at doses that actually reflect what the research shows, and nothing else.

Why doesn't it contain magnesium?

The recommended daily intake of magnesium is ~300mg. Most prenatals don't contain anything like that amount because it would make the capsules either very large or increase the capsule count considerably.

And the form of magnesium that's included is often hard to absorb, causes side effects or is not the optimum form for supporting fertility.

For that reason, we provide magnesium bisglycinate as a standalone product, enabling you to get a meaningful dose in an appropriate form and to have the freedom to take this at night where it can support relaxation and sleep.

When should I start if I'm preparing for IVF?

Lifestyle changes that you make in the run up to IVF, including taking supplements, are best started at least 3 months before egg collection. This is the window that matters for egg quality and maturation. Continue throughout your cycle, transfer and after if you receive a positive test or if you are planning a further round of IVF.

Can I keep taking it once pregnant or when breastfeeding?

Yes! Fundamental Woman covers conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding. No switching, no starting over, no leftover product. One product for the whole journey.

Why do you use methylfolate (5-MTHF) rather than folic acid?

Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate that your body has to convert into its active, usable form before it can do anything. That conversion happens through a series of enzymatic steps, and a significant proportion of women carry a variant of the MTHFR gene that impairs this process, meaning folic acid may not be efficiently absorbed at all. Methylfolate (5-MTHF) is the active, ready-to-use form that your cells can absorb directly, with no conversion required. It works for every woman, regardless of genetics. That's why Fundamental Woman contains 400mcg of 5-MTHF, the same amount recommended by the NHS, in the form your body can actually use.

You might wonder whether including both forms covers all bases. But there's a specific reason we've chosen not to. Research suggests that unmetabolised folic acid may compete with active folate at the same receptors, potentially reducing the benefit of the methylfolate you've taken. So adding folic acid alongside 5-MTHF isn't a belt-and-braces approach; it may actively work against it. One carefully chosen form, at the right dose, is better formulation than two forms that can interfere with each other.

Why does the form of each nutrient matter?

Because your body can't always use what it's given. Synthetic folic acid has to be converted before it does anything - some women do this poorly due to genetic variations. Cheap synthetic B12 (cyanocobalamin) has to be converted too. We use the active, methylated forms that your body can use immediately, regardless of your genetics.
